Garhwal Commissioner inspects flood affected areas in Doon

Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 19 Sep: Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey inspected the flood-affected Maldevta-Kesarwala area today along with Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau.

It may be recalled that a significant part of the road in this area has been swept away by River Song that flows along the road and was in spate. The damage to the road caused huge loss and also severed direct connectivity between Maldevta and Raipur.

However, after reconstruction work was carried out on a war footing, the temporary road has now been constructed and was opened for traffic this morning.

During his visit to Maldevta and Kesarwala, the Garhwal Commissioner instructed the officials to make the temporary road more convenient and to expedite the construction of a permanent road after the monsoon. He also directed them to take measures to protect the road from future floods.

Local MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, who was present on the occasion, said that, on the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, all departments worked day and night to construct the temporary road and managed to do so in just two days.

Kau added that this will provide relief to people in remote villages of Raipur as well as in the Saklana area of the Tehri district. He specially thanked the CM for this effort. The MLA also appealed to the public to avoid using this stretch of road at night during the monsoons, adding that traffic would be fully restored once the permanent road is constructed soon.
