Dehradun, 12 Jul: Senior Congress leaders and party workers celebrated the birthday of Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Karan Mahara at Congress Bhawan here today. A cake was also cut on the occasion and the party leaders greeted Mahara and wished him a long life ahead.
Mahara cut a cake and thanked all the party workers and emphasised the need to work together for the strengthening of the Congress Party. He claimed that the BJP government has created an atmosphere of anarchy in the country and in the state. All the Congress leaders and workers need to unite to fight them. Referring to the Badrinath and Mangalore by-elections, he claimed further that the way the police and administration worked during the polling clearly shows that they were working at the behest of the government. Hooliganism was at its peak during the elections, firing was done on Congress workers, and they were not allowed to cast their votes. He also claimed that the BJP wants to grab power by winning the elections on the basis of hooliganism, which is not a good sign for democracy. He also claimed that the BJP has spoiled the atmosphere of Devbhoomi by fielding an outsider. BJP candidates want to win the election through hooliganism and money power. But the people there have given a befitting reply to BJP, the consequences of which it will have to face in the form of a big defeat. He said that there are wins and losses in democracy, but BJP has tarnished the holy land of Uttarakhand in the entire country by creating an atmosphere of fear.
