Dehradun, 20 May: The CEO of the Uttarakhand Film Development Council, Bansidhar Tiwari, met renowned actor Sunny Deol and director Anurag Singh today on the set of Border 2 at Halduwala in Dehradun. Joint CEO Dr Nitin Upadhyay of the Council was also present during the meeting. A constructive discussion was held on Uttarakhand’s film policy, location diversity, and the state government’s ongoing support for filmmakers.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand’s current film policy is regarded as one of the most progressive in the country. It offers timely shooting permissions, administrative support, and easy access to local resources. Tiwari highlighted that the film unit is experiencing a positive and seamless environment here, which strengthens Uttarakhand’s position as a prime destination for filmmaking. Sunny Deol appeared comfortable and enthusiastic during the visit.
Border 2 is being produced under the banner of JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, and T-Series. The film is being shot in Dehradun since February. Directed by Kesari fame Anurag Singh, the movie features a stellar cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
Producer Binoy Gandhi shared that the film is based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war, and a grand set replicating a Kashmiri village has been constructed in Halduwala. Set construction began in November last year. The film includes war scenes, tanks, and military movement, with high emphasis on VFX for visual presentation. The art direction is being led by Mayur Sharma, and action sequences are choreographed by Ravi Verma, known for his work in films like Jaat. The project has provided daily employment to nearly 350 local workers.
Besides Border 2, several major films are currently being shot in Uttarakhand. Notably, the sequel to Ginny Weds Sunny, produced by Tanu Weds Manu fame Vinod Bachchan, is being filmed in Dehradun, starring Avinash Tiwari and 12th Fail actress Medha Shankar, along with veteran actors Govind Namdev, Sudhir Pandey and Nayani Vijay Dixit.
Similarly, the comedy satire Uttar Da Puttar starring Annu Kapoor, Pawan Malhotra, Bijendra Kala, and Ishteyak Khan is being shot across Dehradun and Rishikesh.
To promote Uttarakhandi cinema, three Garhwali-language films—Marcha, Teri Maya, and Namak—are currently being shot in Dehradun, Tehri, and Uttarkashi, respectively. With strong support from the state government, these regional projects are benefiting from access to cultural resources, local traditions, and technical support, giving regional cinema a fresh direction and distinct identity.
In recent months, many notable Hindi films and web series have also wrapped up shooting in Uttarakhand. These include Vicky Vidya Ka Wo Wala Video, Tikadam, Do Patti, Putul, Rautu Ka Raaz, Tanvi the Great, Past Tense, Kesari 2, and Mere Husband Ki Biwi.
In 2025 alone, the Uttarakhand government has issued 225 shooting permissions so far.
The Uttarakhand Film Development Council continues to strive toward establishing the state as a premier destination for film production—offering a unique blend of culture, nature, technology, and administrative ease for filmmakers.
