Dehradun, 23 Sep: Uttarakhand has marked a significant milestone in its fiscal journey by recording a revenue surplus of Rs 5,310 crores in the financial year 2022–23, as confirmed by the latest report from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). This achievement places Uttarakhand among the select group of states that have successfully maintained a revenue surplus during this period, reflecting a notable turnaround in its financial trajectory.
The CAG report underlines a substantial improvement in the state’s financial health, and the report attributes this surplus to prudent fiscal management and disciplined governance. Historically categorised under the ‘Bimaru’ states, Uttarakhand has faced persistent challenges in maintaining financial discipline, particularly in the earlier years of its formation. However, the recent surplus signals a departure from that legacy, driven by cautious budgeting, transparent policy implementation, and a focused approach to economic reform. The report positions this surplus not merely as a statistical outcome but as a reflection of the state’s evolving administrative maturity and commitment to fiscal responsibility.
Commenting on the CAG report, Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami has emphasised that the surplus is a direct consequence of the government’s dedication to good governance. He noted that the state’s financial strengthening is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a ‘Developed India’. He also claimed that Uttarakhand has taken concrete steps to align with this national aspiration.
Th CM further stated that this accomplishment is a decisive stride towards economic self-reliance and a prosperous future for the state. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Dhami noted that Uttarakhand is being steered towards becoming a developed and self-sufficient state through policies rooted in transparency, accountability, and financial discipline.
