DEHRADUN, 24 Jul: The ‘ASISC Regional (UP & UK) L awn Tennis Tournament’ was held at St Peter’s College, Agra, on 22-23 July. More than 100 participants from the UP & UK Region (i.e. Agra Zone, Lucknow Zone (A), Lucknow Zone (B), Prayagraj Zone, Varanasi Zone & Uttarakhand Zone) participated in the tournament. Uttarakhand Zone, comprising 26 players from various schools of Dehradun and Mussoorie participated in the tournament and emerged as Champions. The matches were conducted as a Team Event. In the Under–14 Boys Category, the team comprising Amrit Dhankar, Riyan Dutta, Naivedya Mittal, Arnav Behl from St Joseph’s Academy and Tejas Sahoo from Brightland School participated in the tournament and secured the 3rd Position. In the Under–17 Boys Category, the team comprising Devansh Verma, Suryadeep Rana, Shaurya Chauhan, Siddharth Madhav from St Joseph’s Academy and Siddharth Chawla from St George’s College participated in the tournament and emerged Winners. They defeated Lucknow Zone (B) by 6-1, 6-2. In the Under–19 Boys Category, the team comprising Pranay Mittal, Anirudh Bhatia, Shreyan Kochhar from Brightland School and Rhitam Agarwal from St George’s College participated in the tournament and emerged Champions. They defeated Agra Zone by 6-0, 6-2. In the Under–14 Girls Category, the team comprising Katyani Rawat from Brightland School, Jaya Kapoor and Ira Jha from St Joseph’s Academy and Miara Gupta from Convent of Jesus and Mary participated in the tournament and were the Runners-Up. They lost the finals to Lucknow Zone (B) by 6-3, 6- 1. In the Under–17 Girls Category, the team comprising Riya Bhatia from Sri Ram Centennial School, Sirjan Kohli and Divyani Naithani from Convent of Jesus and Mary, Shyla Marwaha from Unison World School participated in the tournament and emerged Winners. They defeated Agra Zone by 6-2, 6-4. In the Under–19 Girls Category, the team comprising Aasifa Khan from St Joseph’s Academy, Amodini Malhotra from Montessori School, Basu Thakur and Radhika Bansal from Unison World School and Ramana Prakash from Welham Girls’ School participated in the tournament and emerged Champions. They defeated Agra Zone by 6-0, 6-1. The Chief Guest at the Closing Ceremony was Jayant Mishra (Principal Commissioner, Income Tax, Agra) along with the Observer, Bro Tomy Varghese (Principal, St George’s College, Mussoorie) and Father Paul Thannickal (Principal of St Peter’s College, Agra) who distributed the Medals and Mementos to the Prize Winners. The Uttarakhand Zone will now participate in the Nationals, which will be held from 29 September to 1 October in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The Uttarakhand Zone team was accompanied by Rajiv Yadav (Director, St Joseph’s Tennis Academy).
