Mussoorie, 12 Jul: Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has launched a special public outreach campaign in Mussoorie with the aim of establishing direct dialogue with electricity consumers, resolving their issues, and assessing the actual status of power services.

Acting on the instructions of Managing Director PC Dhyani, senior officials from the corporate headquarters visited various areas of the town to meet consumers and gather detailed information regarding power supply, grievances, and future plans. During the campaign, officials visited homes to inquire if consumers were facing any difficulties regarding the power supply. Most consumers stated that electricity services in Mussoorie are satisfactory; even if supply is interrupted during bad weather or heavy rain, the department’s team restores it promptly. People also appreciated the department’s swift response mechanism. However, many locals prominently raised the issue of electricity poles remaining in the middle of the road following road-widening work. Departmental officials clarified that the process of relocating the poles would be carried out according to regulations once formal correspondence is received from the department responsible for road construction, ensuring no inconvenience to traffic or the general public. Meanwhile, Chief Engineer Rajkumar also briefed consumers on the smart meter scheme. He informed them that the process of installing smart meters in Mussoorie is set to begin. Initially, smart meters will be installed at the homes of public representatives and select consumers so that people can personally compare the functioning of old meters versus smart meters. Officials stated that many misconceptions being spread about smart meters are baseless. Smart meters will provide consumers with greater transparency, accurate billing, and real-time information on electricity consumption. They added that the department would also conduct a demonstration by installing both old and smart meters at the same premises, allowing consumers to personally compare the readings and billing of both systems. Departmental officials stated that UPCL’s objective is not merely to supply electricity but also to strengthen consumer trust. Consumers facing issues related to electricity bills, meters, voltage, or any other matter may contact the departmental office or the concerned officials, where their grievances will be resolved on a priority basis.

Chief Engineer Rajkumar, Superintending Engineer Rahul Jain, Executive Engineer SDS Bisht, Mussoorie SDO Pankaj Thapliyal, and other departmental officials were present on the occasion.
