UPES holds 18th Convocation, 3843 students receives degrees

Dehradun, 20 Aug: UPES celebrated its 18th Convocation at its Bidholi Campus with a total of 3843 students from all the seven schools at UPES being conferred their degrees. The Guests of Honour at the partly on-campus and partly virtual ceremony were Anmol Singh Jaggi, Founder & MD, GENSOL Engineering Ltd, Alok Ohrie, President & MD, Dell Technologies, India, UPES Chancellor Dr SJ Chopra, Vice Chancellor Dr Sunil Rai, Registrar Dr Veena Dutta along with the Deans.
The degrees presented included 48 PhDs; 4 Higher Doctorates, 523 Post Graduate Degrees and 462 Post Graduate – Distance Learning Degrees which comprised MBA, MTech, MA, LLM and M Design, 2737 Undergraduate degrees and 69 Undergraduate – Distance Learning degrees in the domains of B Tech, BCA, BBA, BA, B Com, B Design, Bachelor of Planning, Bachelor of Fine Arts & various UG programmes of Law.
Amongst the Postgraduate Degrees, 8 MBA Degrees were conferred on Uttarakhand State Employees under the ‘Open/Distance’ Learning Mode which included 6 in Infrastructure Management and 2 in Power Management, while 51 employees of HPCL were also conferred their degrees in MBA – Oil & Gas.
Along with the degrees, 7 ‘Gold Medals’, 42 ‘Silver Medals’, 30 ‘Letters of Appreciation’, 3 ‘Instituted Medals Gold’ and 6 ‘Shields’ were awarded to the students during the ceremony.
VC Dr Sunil Rai presented the ‘’Vice Chancellor’s Report 2020-21′, taking the audience through the journey of UPES in the last one year.
Dr Rai said, “At UPES, our singular purpose is to prepare each one of our students for life. Each student is encouraged to foster professional development through imagination, innovation, specialised knowledge and critical thinking. We reinvented our pedagogy and made sure learning went uninterrupted for them. We also furthered our scholarship program, re-introducing the girl scholarship and domicile fee concession. To this, we added a Covid Scholarship as a commitment to provide access to education even in challenging times. We are the first university to create the School for Life which is aligned with the vision of National Education Policy.”
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr Veena Dutta, Registrar, UPES.
