Dehradun, 20 Feb: UPES recently concluded its annual sports and cultural fest, Spandan. Organised by the university’s Student Welfare team, the four-day event fostered camaraderie among students and faculty members.
Spandan showcased a diverse range of cultural and sports activities, including captivating group dance performances, melodious band and orchestra shows, thought-provoking street plays, and glamorous fashion shows. The festival served as a platform for participants to display their artistic flair and athletic prowess. Highlighting the competitive spirit of the event, teams from across seven schools enthusiastically participated in cricket, volleyball, basketball, and relay race. These diverse avenues cultivate a sense of togetherness, forging lasting bonds and enriching the ethos of the academic community.
The event was inaugurated with a grand performance by the Uttarakhand Police Pipe Band leading the contingents of all the schools. This was followed by an 8 x 100-metre relay race and league matches of volleyball, basketball, futsal, and cricket. The five participating teams Raising the Bar (School of Law), Business Brigade (School of Business), Technocrats (School of Advanced Engineering), Python (School of Computer Science) and Phoenix Rising raised the bar with their exceptional skills and sportsmanship, showcasing the true spirit of competitiveness and collaboration.
In an exhilarating showdown for the Women’s Futsal title, team Raising the Bar, competed against team Technocrats, with Raising the Bar emerging victorious. The Men’s Futsal final witnessed a similar outcome as Raising the Bar triumphed against Technocrats. The Women’s Cricket final saw a twist as team Business Brigade clinched the championship title by defeating Raising the Bar. Meanwhile, in the Basketball arena, team Raising the Bar continued their dominance, securing victories in, both, the Men’s and Women’s categories against Technocrats. Additionally, team Python secured the Men’s Basketball title, while team Raising the Bar triumphed in Women’s Volleyball, and Python emerged victorious in Men’s Volleyball against Team Business Brigade.
Furthermore, Team Phoenix Rising, which comprised a mix of students and faculty members from the School of Design, the School of Health Sciences and Technology and the School of Liberal Studies, bagged the winner’s trophy for cultural activities like Nukkad Natak and dance competition.
Overall, Team Raising the Bar emerged as the Best School in Sports, while Phoenix Rising claimed the title of Best School in Cultural Activities. The most coveted title of Overall Champions was won by team Raising the Bar. Their exceptional performances across both sports and cultural events solidified their position as the dominant force in UPES’s annual Spandan festival.
