DEHRADUN, 6 Nov: Director General, Information, Uttarakhand, Bansidhar Tiwari addressed a Conference of Uttarakhand Journalists organised by the ‘Uttarakhand Patrakar Union’, here, today. He observed that journalists and the Information Department are two sides of the same coin. Both should always be ready to solve each others’ problems. He mentioned that journalists could meet him at any time regarding any of their problems.
In the programme organised at the Uttaranchal Press Club, he said that journalists raise issues related to public interest. The government and administration also take cognizance and try to solve them in the best possible way. The responsibility of journalists has always been high. There is an inseparable relationship between the information department and journalists. Every effort is made by the department to solve each and every problem of journalists, he claimed.
The State President of the Union, Bhupendra Singh Kandari said that all the district and tehsil units of the union are working in the interest of journalists. He claimed that the union tries to establish a better dialogue between the information department and the journalists.
During this programme, an 11 point letter of demands was given to the Director General, Information, on behalf of the union’s District President Santosh Chamoli.
Five veteran journalists were honoured with the Senior Journalist Award for their incomparable contribution in the field of journalism. These included RP Nainwal (formerly with the TOI), DS Kunwar (formerly with the TOI), Upendra Kumar Sharma (Doon Dwar, Hindi weekly), Govind Kaptiyal (formerly with ETV) and Sunil Pandhi (Mussoorie Times, Hindi weekly). Nainwal couldn’t attend the function due to a family engagement.
The Union’s State Organisation Secretary Vinod Pundir, District Organisation Secretary Darban Singh, Kishore Rawat and Chandrakant Purohit were felicitated for the successful holding of the district conference.
The conference, which was organised under the guidance of Provincial General Secretary Harish Joshi, was attended by Union Patron Naveen Thaledi, Press Club President Jitendra Anthwal, former Press Club Presidents Vikas Dhulia and Darshan Singh Rawat, Press Club General Secretary OP Benjwal, former General Secretary Sanjay Ghildiyal, Satish Sharma, Devendra Negi, Manmeet Rawat, Tilak Raj, Union Treasurer Rajesh Barthwal, Meena Negi, KS Bisht, Indradev Raturi, Shoorveer Singh Sajwan, Vijendra Pundir, Dinesh Joshi, Parveen Bahuguna, Sarita Negi, Geeta Mishra, besides the office bearers of Mussoorie, Vikasnagar and Haridwar.
