Veteran Journo Vikram Rao passes away in Lucknow, Yogi and Dhami condole passing away

Lucknow, 12 May: Veteran journalist and well known union leader of journalists, Dr K Vikram Rao breathed his last this morning at a private hospital in Lucknow following complications related to a respiratory condition. He is survived amongst other family members by his sons, Sudev Rao and Vishwadev Rao, the latter being a well-known journalist himself. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami have condoled the passing away of veteran journalist.
Rao’s life was dedicated to journalism, principles, and public interest. His mortal remains will be kept at 703, Palace Court Apartment, near Congress Office, Mall Avenue, Lucknow for final respects until the cremation takes place.
A towering figure in Indian journalism, Rao once upon a time, led the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ), regarded as one of the largest journalist unions globally. He was known for his strong leadership, clear perspective, and indomitable spirit. Over four decades, he served as an editor, columnist, academic, and advocate for press rights, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire many in the field.
Several leaders have expressed grief over his passing. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami condoled Rao’s demise, remembering him as a powerful voice in journalism whose contributions will always be remembered. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute, calling his passing an irreplaceable loss to the world of journalism. In his message, Adityanath prayed for peace for Rao’s soul and strength for his bereaved family.
It is worth reminding here that Rao had met Yogi Adityanath at his official residence just days before his passing away and had posted details of their meeting on social media. During the meeting, he presented copies of his books ‘Inheen Satron Ke Saath Mein’ and ‘Ve Din Ve Log’ to the CM. His son and journalist K Vishwadev Rao shared insights on the books’ contents with Adityanath.
