DEHRADUN, 20 Sep: Undeterred by the ferocity of the recent natural disaster, the Dehradun district administration has demonstrated unwavering resolve, with the District Magistrate Savin Bansal reaching the disaster-hit regions by crossing streams, ravines and drains on foot. In a poignant moment, villagers in Phulet remarked that a DM had visited their village for the first time since Independence. Following his overseeing of relief operations in Majad, Karligad, Sahastradhara, Maldevta and the reopening of the contact road in Mussoorie, the DM proceeded to assess the situation in the most severely affected areas.
The villages of Phulet, Chhamroli, Silla, Simyari and Kyara, in district Dehradun, which have been completely cut off from the district headquarters since the calamity struck on night of 16 September, had been receiving ration supplies via helicopter. However, the DM opted against aerial access and instead undertook the arduous journey by land. Beginning from Maldevta, he navigated a challenging route to Serki-Silla and parts of Bhainswad village and Chhamroli, thereafter walking nearly 12 kms to conduct a thorough door-to-door assessment of the damage, inspecting homes, fields and threshing grounds.
To ensure sustained administrative presence and effective relief distribution, the DM has deputed a special Tehsildar, Block Development Officer and officials from relevant departments to remain stationed in the disaster-stricken areas until further orders. Their mandate includes conducting a comprehensive damage assessment and facilitating compensation to the affected families. The District Magistrate stated that Uttarakhand, including Dehradun district, is facing a grave calamity, with numerous regions rendered inaccessible. Villages such as Karligad, Majad, Sahastradhara, Maldevta, Phulet, Chhamroli, Simyara, Silla, Sirona and Kyara continue to grapple with the devastating impact of the disaster.
While on inspection of this area, the DM personally supervised the rescue operations in Karligad and Majad, monitored the road restoration work on Maldevta Road and oversaw the resumption of traffic movement in Mussoorie. He assigned responsibilities to officials and maintained direct oversight of the progress. The district administration remains engaged in a war-footing effort to restore normalcy and ensure that essential services reach every affected household.
