Dehradun, 23 May: A woman named Priyanka Pant, a resident of Dehradun, has filed a complaint alleging that she was defrauded of Rs 40 lakh by a man who posed as her friend and convinced her to invest in a fake business venture.

The complainant stated that she was introduced to the accused, identified as Rahul Jindal, who also goes by the name Sanjeev, through a woman who claimed to be from Delhi. Gaining her trust over time, Rahul proposed the idea of starting a business together.

Believing the proposal to be genuine, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 40 lakh to multiple bank accounts, some of which were in the name of Rahul and an unidentified woman. The funds were allegedly directed to accounts located in Ludhiana and elsewhere, including one transaction made as a fake fixed deposit investment.

According to the complaint, after receiving the money, Rahul blocked Priyanka’s phone number and became untraceable. She further stated that she has no knowledge of his actual address or true identity.

She said in her statement, “This was my hard-earned money. I trusted him thinking he was a genuine business partner.” The complaint has been registered at Patel Nagar Police Station, which has started the investigation into the case.
