Dehradun, 16 Jul: District Magistrate Savin Bansal intervened promptly in a case related to a 72-year-old woman, Saraswati Devi, a resident of Ajabpur, who approached him on 15 July with a grievance against the Supply Department. She complained that despite being a widow and reliant solely on her pension for sustenance, the local ration dealer had denied her food grains, citing the omission of her name from the department’s beneficiary list. She asserted that she had received ration previously and requested the DM to intervene to ensure that her entitlement was not withheld unjustly.
On hearing the complaint, the DM directed the District Supply Officer to conduct an immediate inquiry and ensure that ration was delivered without delay. The response was swift and before a formal order from the Collectorate could be issued, the Supply Department officials rushed to her residence, reinstated her ration card, and provided her foodgrains the very same day. The DM later warned all departments that negligence or mistreatment of elderly persons, women, children, or vulnerable individuals would be met with stringent consequences and such lapses in service would not be tolerated.
It may be recalled that District Magistrate Savin Bansal regularly holds public hearing at his office and is known to take complaints seriously and often goes out of way to help resolve the complainant’s problems. This seriousness on part of the DM has also had the necessary effect on the officials who have begun to take action promptly to ensure early redressal of the complaints.
