Dehradun, 16 Nov: After the recommendation of Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal, the Excise Secretary has cancelled the 24-hour license of the bar of Hyatt Regency Hotel located on Dehradun-Mussoorie Road and reduced it to 12 hours. Dehradun DM Savin Bansal said that no bar, pub, club will be operated in the district after 11:00 pm. The decision comes in the wake of a spate of road accidents that the state in general and Dehradun in particular has witnessed recently, involving drunken driving.

It may be recalled that after a recent road accident which had killed 6 youngsters in Dehradun, the Dehradun Police’s checking campaign is progressing aggressively. The police are taking strict action against speeding and overloading of vehicles. Simultaneously, the district administration has also intensified its actions. The Dehradun DM has clearly instructed that bars, pubs, and clubs will not operate in the city after 11 pm. On the recommendation of the DM, the 24-hour license of a major hotel’s bars in Dehradun has been cancelled and reduced to 12 hours.

According to the information, the recommendation to operate the famous bar in Dehradun city for 24 hours was initially made by the District Magistrate’s office. Before the current DM took charge, the DM and Excise Commissioner had recommended 24-hour bar operation for this famous hotel on 27 August 2024. However, the present District Magistrate has taken the matter of operation time seriously and recommended cancellation action. Consequently, Excise Commissioner Hari Chandra Semwal has issued orders related to the cancellation of permission for the 24-hour operation of the hotel bar.

It may also be recalled that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had also taken serious note of recent spate in road accidents and had directed strict action against speeding vehicles and drunken driving. Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar has also issued SOPs in this regard.
