National Sample Survey begins in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, 13 Jul: In an important initiative towards making the policies related to social and economic development in Uttarakhand more effective, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Uttarakhand (Planning Department) inaugurated a three-day training and workshop for the 81st edition of the National Sample Survey (NSS) on Monday at Doon University, Mothrowala. This workshop is being organised from 13 to 15 July. The survey is being conducted in collaboration with the Socio-Economic Statistics Division of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India.

The workshop was inaugurated by Sushil Kumar, Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. He stated that the 81st iteration of the National Sample Survey will be conducted by departmental personnel in all 13 districts of the state. This survey will collect detailed data on migration, assessment, loans, and investment in the state, which will serve as an important basis for formulating state and central government policies and development plans.

Deputy Director Dr Ila Pant Bisht said that, during the survey, detailed information will be collected from families through three schedules. In this, data related to the migration status of family members, money received during the last 365 days (remittances), employment and economic activities, income of agricultural families, production assets, agricultural practices, use of modern technologies, non-financial assets and indebtedness will be collected. He said that this survey will be conducted across the state from July 2026 to June 30, 2027.

Representatives of the Government of India also participated in the workshop along with officials from all districts , mandals and development blocks of the state. During the training, detailed training is being given by experts on various aspects of survey methodology, data collection techniques, digital process and quality control.​​

On this occasion, Kedar Nath Verma of FOD, Additional Director Pankaj Naithani, Joint Director Dr​ Dinesh Chand Badoni, Deputy Director Lalit Mohan Joshi, Nirmal Kumar Shah, Additional Statistical Officer Narendra Singh, Assistant Statistical Officer Neeraj Prasad along with the officers of all districts and mandals and assistant enumerators of development blocks were present. The programme was conducted by Ashok Kumar, Finance and Statistics Officer.

This survey will provide a comprehensive picture of the actual situation regarding migration, employment, agricultural economy, income, assets and credit in the state, which will help in making future development plans more accurate and effective.
