Sahibzadas upheld Sikh tradition of courage: Gov

Dehradun, 26 Dec: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said on the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas, today, that this the day to remember the courage of the brave Sahibzadas, who made the supreme sacrifice for their nation, religion and culture. This example of supreme sacrifice was a unique one. The little Sahibzadas did not submit to the cruel oppressors and carried forward the great tradition of Sikhism of never bowing down before unjust rulers.

On the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas, today, the Governor paid tribute to Baba Zorawar Singh, Baba Fateh Singh and Mata Gujri at a programme organised under the aegis of the Sanskrit University at the Raj Bhavan. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the idea of ​​celebrating the martyrdom of the great sons of Guru Gobind Singh as Veer Bal Diwas. This would be appreciated for ages.

The Governor added that Veer Bal Diwas is an inspiration for harmony and social unity. The message will make the entire world and humanity aware of self-respect, courage and sacrifice. It would be an inspiration for children to be patriotic. He said that Sikhism is not only a religion but a civilised way of living life with the spirit of patriotism. Sikhism has paved the way for the whole of India to become one India, a better India.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, through a video message, paid his tribute to the four brave Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh for their exemplary courage and supreme sacrifice. He said there are few other examples like this martyrdom for the protection of Indian culture and religion. The Chief Minister said that Veer Bal Diwas reminds us that age does not matter when it comes to being courageous.

He said that all the Sikh Gurus have always kept the nation first and have left their mark in the service of humanity. The grateful nation will always remember the sacrifice of the Guru’s sons.

The Chairman of Hemkund Management Trust, Narendrajit Singh Bindra, and Professor of Punjab University, Daljit Singh, also shed light on the lives of the brave Sahibzadas. Shabad Kirtan based on the Veer Sahibzadas was recited by Taranjit Singh Sethi. Krit Kaur recited a poem in their honour.

Vice Chancellor of Sanskrit University, Prof Dinesh Chandra Shastri welcomed all the dignitaries. A coffee table book “Aarohi” related to the work and achievements of Prof Shastri during the past year was released by the Governor.
