Focus on increasing voter awareness: Chief Electoral Officer

Dehradun, 7 Feb: Chief Electoral Officer Dr BVRC Purushottam has directed that special attention be paid to the voter awareness programme to increase voting percentage in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He said that along with sweep activities, support from print, electronic and social media should be taken. Youth should be connected to voter awareness programmes through social media.

Dr Purushottam was reviewing the election related preparations with the nodal officers of his department at the Secretariat, here, today. He said that all preparations should be completed within the time limit given by the Election Commission of India. The State Deployment Plan should be prepared as per the standards of the Security Management Plan and the Commission. The training of election related personnel is most important. It should be ensured that the personnel get the necessary training properly.

Dr Purushottam said that many important initiatives like CVigil have been taken up by the Election Commission of India. This information should reach the people as much as possible. Booth wise strategy should be made to increase the vote percentage. Booth level awareness groups should also be activated.

Joint Election Officer Namami Bansal, Pratap Shah and other officials were present at the meeting.
