Dehradun, 23 May: In a swift and decisive move, the Rajpur Police on Thursday arrested a man accused of attacking his neighbour with an iron rod and causing serious injuries, in the Rajpur area.

The accused, identified as Shahrukh Ansari, was nabbed near a liquor shop on Rajpur Road. Police said Ansari had been on the run since the incident, which occurred earlier this week following a heated argument between him and the complainant, Adarsh Veer Dhawan, a resident of Vivek Vihar, Jakhan.

According to the police, the dispute between the two neighbours escalated, and in a fit of rage, Ansari allegedly assaulted Dhawan with an iron rod, striking him on the head. The victim sustained serious injuries and later filed a written complaint at Rajpur Police Station.

A case was registered and police launched a manhunt. Acting on intelligence gathered through the informer network, they traced the accused to his hideout.

The arrested individual, Shahrukh Ansari, is the son of Mohammad Usman. He currently resides at Nai Basti, Chidowali, Rajpur, and is a native of Bijnor.
