Mussoorie, 25 May: A gang spreading fake notes has become active in Mussoorie. Recently a mobile shopkeeper of the city was duped by giving him fake Rs 500 notes. When the shopkeeper came to know about the fake notes, he immediately lodged a complaint at the local police station. The shopkeeper said that the gang members came to the mobile shop posing as customers and bought a phone from him. The payment included three fake Rs 500 notes. He said that his father was in the shop at that time and when he got suspicious about one of the notes, the cunning person replaced one Rs 500 note. He said that in the morning when he went to the bank to deposit the shop’s money as usual, the bank officer took out three fake Rs 500 notes and confiscated them. He has complained about the entire matter to Mussoorie Police and has sought immediate action by giving the number of the fraudster, the photo captured in CCTV and the photo of the fake note so that other shopkeepers do not become victims of fraud like him. Police have registered a case on the basis of the complaint and CCTV footage of the area is being scanned.

Police believe that this could be an organised gang, which is cheating people by circulating fake notes in different shops. Police have appealed to the people to be cautious while transacting with any suspicious customer. Check the security features mentioned by RBI to identify fake notes. Report any suspicious case immediately to the nearest police station. This incident has created an atmosphere of concern among the traders of Mussoorie. The Mussoorie Traders’ Association has also demanded strict action in the matter.
