Dehradun, 10 Jun: A young man was arrested on Monday night for firing a shot near the ISBT flyover. The police arrived quickly at the scene and found a crowd beating a young man. Police recovered a country-made pistol from him. Videos of the incident have since gone viral on social media.
The person arrested has been identified as 21-year-old Ayush Rathi, son of Narottam Singh, and a resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. He was taken into custody and brought to the police outpost for questioning.
According to the police, the situation started when a boy and a girl were arguing under the flyover. People nearby, including auto drivers, stepped in to support the girl. Ayush Rathi came to the spot and tried to intervene, but the crowd thought he was helping the boy. In the chaos, Ayush took out a pistol and fired one shot into the air, claiming it was for self-defence.
The police confirmed that the gun was illegal. They also said there was no evidence that Ayush had harassed the girl or harmed anyone with the bullet. Some people received minor injuries during the scuffle, but they were treated on the spot.
Police also warned against sharing fake videos on social media. They said misleading posts about this incident are being spread, and action will be taken against those responsible.
