KOTDWAR, 5 Aug: After the collapse of Malan Bridge in Motadhak on July 13 last month, the movement of heavy vehicles has started for 35 villages including the industrial area of Bhawar today. Along with heavy vehicles, scooties, bikes, cars, school buses and trucks have also started traveling on this route.
An alternative route has been made with the help of Hume pipes on a 300-meter patch on Malan River.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker and local MLA Ritu Khanduri Bhushan had given instructions to construct the alternative route on a war footing. Along with this, she was taking the daily report of the construction of the route and was also conducting ground inspection of the alternative route. The Speaker had set a target of completing the alternative route within 21 days, which was completed on time.
On the operationalization of the alternative bridge, the Speaker said that the alternative route was constructed on a war footing to provide immediate relief to the residents of Kotdwar. She also appealed to the residents of Kotdwar not to use this bridge in case of heavy rains as it is an alternative route.
In view of the safety of the alternate route, vehicles weighing more than 30 tonnes have been banned at present.
