Dehradun, 8 May: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) was paid a courtesy visit by Director of Sainik Welfare, Brigadier Amrit Lal (Retd), at the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday. During the meeting, various schemes and activities related to soldiers’ welfare in the state were discussed in detail.

The Governor announced that to honour the unparalleled dedication and spirit of service of soldiers, a special event titled ‘An Evening Dedicated to Soldiers’ will be organised in Nainital on 11 June. This programme is part of an innovative initiative started by the Governor. Earlier, a similar event was successfully held in Dehradun, and now it is being extended to the Kumaon region with the upcoming programme in Nainital.

During the event, Gallantry Medal awardees, ex-servicemen, and veterans who have made significant social contributions in Uttarakhand will be felicitated and presented with letters of appreciation.

The Governor stated that Uttarakhand is not only the ‘Land of the Gods’ but also a ‘Land of the Brave’. Numerous brave sons of this soil have made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. This programme is a token of gratitude towards these heroes and serves as an inspiration for future generations. He added that the courage and valour displayed by the soldiers of Uttarakhand have proven that this land can deliver messages of peace while also setting unparalleled examples of bravery when needed.
