Approval granted for 10.5 MLD Sewage Project in Garhi Cantt

Dehradun, 25 Mar: The long-standing sewage disposal problem in Garhi Cantonment is set to be addressed with a significant step forward. Following the Urban Development Department’s order approving the project, a delegation from the cantonment area met Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi at his camp office to express their gratitude for his efforts.

Under this project, Uttarakhand Jal Nigam has been appointed as the executing agency to carry out the development of a 9 MLD STP (Sewage Treatment Plant), a 3 MLD SPS (Sewage Pumping Station), a 0.16 MLD Co-Treatment Plant, along with sewer lines and manholes in Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Garhi, Dakra, and Cantonment areas. The total cost of the project is Rs 53.72 crore, with an initial instalment of Rs 14.58 crore already released.

The project will establish a 10.5 MLD capacity water treatment and sewage system, significantly improving sanitation and hygiene in the region. The delegation thanked Minister Ganesh Joshi, stating that this initiative will be a milestone in the area’s development and expressed hope that the work would commence at the earliest to provide better facilities for residents.

Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, emphasising that the government is sensitive to public issues and committed to taking all necessary steps in the interest of the people. He assured that, once completed, this project will provide long-term relief from sewage problems in Garhi Cantonment. The minister also highlighted various developmental initiatives in the area, including the construction of community halls and several drinking water projects.

The delegation included BJP Mandal President Rajeev Gurung, former Vice President of the Cantonment Board Vishnu Prasad, Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha President Captain Padam Singh Thapa, Former Mandal President Jyoti Kotia, Acharya Dr Bipin Joshi, Captain Dinesh Pradhan, and other prominent members.
