DEHRADUN, 27 Apr: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Monday reviewed the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 during a meeting held at the Secretariat. At the meeting, he held discussions on various issues and issued necessary directions to the officials. He instructed that a complete mechanism for solid waste management be prepared and a detailed action plan submitted to the government at the earliest. He further directed that additional funds be made available under the mission for disposal of solid waste along the Char Dham routes and at entry points of districts, emphasising that district magistrates (DMs) must ensure cleanliness around the pilgrimage routes and the four shrines. He stressed that the additional funds should be utilised appropriately.
The CS also directed that treated water from sewage treatment plants across the State be used entirely for non-potable purposes. He said wherever sewage treatment plants have been set up, plans must be prepared to ensure 100 per cent utilisation of treated water in nearby areas for non-drinking activities. He instructed that all the compressed biogas plants and waste-to-energy plants within the state be completed and made operational at the earliest. He added that the Vehicle Location Tracking System should be launched without delay to enable monitoring of door-to-door waste collection.
On the occasion, Secretary Nitesh Kumar Jha, Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Dr Ahmad Iqbal and other senior officials were present.
