Dehradun, 6 Jan: The BJP has extended the deadline by three days for rebel party workers to withdraw their candidature filed against the party’s officially endorsed candidates and served a fresh ultimatum to them.  BJP’s State General Secretary Aditya Kothari today said that the party wishes to give a fresh opportunity to the rebel party candidates to withdraw candidature in view of their past contribution to the party.

During an informal chat with media persons at the party’s state headquarters here, today, Kothari stated that Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), former Chief Ministers and other senior officials have been assigned the responsibility to engage with these workers and address the issue.

Kothari announced that the deadline for withdrawing nominations has been extended until the evening of 8 January, following the directives of State President Mahendra Bhatt. Senior leaders, including a former Chief Minister, MPs, government officials, and MLAs, have been entrusted with persuading workers to align with the party’s official candidates in the civic elections. He also warned that disciplinary action would be taken against those who fail to comply.

Kothari observed that that many of these workers contesting as rebel candidates have been loyal party workers for decades and have made significant contributions to the BJP. In recognition of their long-standing service, the party is offering them another opportunity to reconsider their decisions. As a party that values and respects its workers, the BJP is committed to resolving the matter amicably. However, Kothari also warned that disciplinary measures would be a last resort if the workers do not withdraw their candidacies by the stipulated deadline.
