Mussoorie, 18 Jul: The Indian Medical Association, Dehradun, held a blood donation camp at Oak Grove School, here, today. The blood donation camp was inaugurated jointly by Principal JP Pandey and Dr Heena Dhobal, Additional Divisional Medical Officer, Oak Grove School Hospital, Jharipani. In the blood donation camp, 51 members of the teaching and non-teaching staff registered to donate blood.
Principal JP Pandey stated that IMA Blood Bank of Uttarakhand is a non-profit organisation with world class infrastructure, using Bar codes, robotic machines and fully integrated ERP software.
He added that the IMA Blood Bank was resolved that no needy patient should ever die due to lack of safe and quality blood in Dehradun and its surrounding areas. Therefore, the school went a step ahead and held a blood donation camp in its premises to save the lives of needy persons.
Dr Heena Dhobal said that the blood could be donated by any volunteer, who made the choice to donate blood. When one donated blood, one joined a very select group. Currently, only 0.8 out of every 100 people in India donate blood. With this one had the power to make a difference in someone’s life, by donating blood. Every donation helped to save 3-4 lives, and could help bring comfort to those in need.
Dr Swati Nagjot, Medical Officer, IMA, said that the Blood Bank provided free blood components to poor patients, Thalassemics, Hemophiliacs and to people suffering from sickle cell diseases, besides providing many other subsidies. On an average, the Blood Bank issued free Blood Components worth Rs 15,000 on a daily basis. She further said that during the blood donation camp near about 4000 units of blood were collected per month from the various colleges of Dehradun.
Bharti Sharma, Promoter and teacher of the Indian Medical Association, spoke about the importance of blood donation by a healthy person.
Present at the blood donation camp were Dr Sanjay Dube, Head Master, Oak Grove Boys’ School, Rekha Sangal, Headmistress, Oak Grove Senior Girls’ School, Anand Shukla, Headmaster, Oak Grove Junior School, Vinay Kumar, Dr Atul Kumar Saxena, Vipan Kumar, Manisha Sharma, Nisha Shalini, Sachin Gupta, Vishwajeet Sharma, Sachin Gupta, Deepak Bisht, Amit Kumar, RS Mehra, Ravi Panwar, Sarita Rathor, Kamlesh Chauhan and all the members of the IMA medical team.
