CM Dhami orders expedited work on Jamrani Multipurpose, Song Drinking Water Dam Projects

Dehradun, 27 Jun: During a high-level meeting held at his official residence here, today, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed officials to accelerate progress on the Jamrani Multipurpose Dam Project and the Song Drinking Water Dam Project. The Chief Minister emphasised that the work under these projects should be carried out in a phased and time-bound manner.

The Jamrani Dam Project, originally scheduled for completion by June 2029, has now been directed by the Chief Minister to be completed by December 2028. Similarly, he instructed that the Song Dam Project, which was initially planned for completion by March 2030, should also be completed ahead of schedule.

Jamrani Multipurpose Dam Project is to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 3,808 crore. Its key components are onstruction of a 150.6-metre-high dam; reconstruction of 42.92 km of existing canal; and construction of 21.25 km of a new canal. The benefits would be drinking water supply of 117 MLD for Haldwani city and surrounding areas, catering to a future population of approximately 10.5 lakhs; creation of a 9 km-long reservoir to be developed as a new tourism destination; enhancement of irrigation capacity by approximately 57,000 hectares.

The Song Drinking Water Dam Project estimated cost is Rs 2,492 crore. Its key components are construction of a 130.6-metre-high dam; 14.70 km long water conveyance system (1.5-metre diameter); 85 kms of water distribution network; construction of a 150 MLD water treatment plant. The benefits would be gravity-based supply of 150 MLD drinking water for Dehradun city and suburban areas, meeting the demand of approximately 10.65 lakh people till the year 2053. Also, 3.5 km-long reservoir to be developed as a tourism destination.

Senior officials present at the meeting included Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretaries SN Pandey, Yugal Kishore Pant, Additional Director General, Police, AP Anshuman, and Additional Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari.
