Dehradun, 11 Dec: The Uttarakhand Hathkarga Evam Hasthshilp Vikas Parishad, Udyog Nideshalya, Dehradun, conducted a press conference to encourage the trend of Handloom and Handicraft among the local people as part of a NABARD Scheme. Sudhir Nautiyal, Director of the Parishad, said that like the Delhi Haat, the Doon Haat was being further developed and modified to boost the culture and heritage of the hills by providing a special platform to local handloom and handicraft products.
For proper marketing of local products, 14 stalls have been constructed at the Doon Haat. These stalls will provide sufficient space to cottage industry, as well as the products of weavers, handicraft persons of various districts of Uttarakhand. Along with this, local emporiums of Himadari and Hilaince will also help boost local products of the hills.
Nautiyal also said that the reconstructed Doon Haat would be inaugurated on 12 December by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. An exhibition would also be held from 12 to 16 December to display and market various products of Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragrah, Nainital, Tehri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar and various other districts. He also said that similar local Haats were being developed in Pithoragarh, Kashipur and Chamoli.
During the inauguration of Doon Haat, the CM will also felicitate famous handicrafts persons with the ‘Uttarakhand Rajya Shilp Ratan Puraskar’. Others present at the Press Conference were Shally Dabral, Deputy Director, Udyog Nideshalaya, and KC Chamoli.
