Dehradun, 6 Aug: Uttarakhand Congress has alleged misuse of Form 7 during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list and in this regard, today, a Congress delegation led by Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary (organisation) Rajendra Singh Bhandari, met the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BVRC Purushottam and submitted a detailed memorandum. The Congress has alleged that, in several assembly constituencies certain people were submitting numerous Form‑7 applications on the same day or on different days. They claimed that physical verification revealed that many of the voters whose names were sought to be deleted were actually residing at their registered addresses, raising suspicion of a deliberate attempt to remove genuine voters from the rolls.
The delegation demanded that no complaint be accepted without proper identification of the complainant, that the unverified and misleading Form‑7 applications be cancelled immediately, and that no voter’s name be deleted from the electoral roll without due inquiry and completion of statutory procedure. The delegation further urged that under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, criminal proceedings should be initiated against those filing false information through Form‑7.
The party also asserted that its demand is not for the benefit of any political organisation but for safeguarding the democracy, protecting the constitutional rights of voters and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. With the assembly elections approaching, Congress stressed that swift and effective action by the Election Commission on this matter is essential.
Alongside Rajendra Singh Bhandari, the delegation included Congress leaders Suryakant Dhasmana, Amrendra Bisht, control room in‑charge advocate Rakesh Negi, Dimple Singh, Mahendra Singh Rana, Shiva Joshi, Vinod Kumar and other office‑bearers.
