Dehradun, 10 Dec: The BJP has accused Congress of spreading propaganda about the purity of Ganga water, describing it as an indication of an anti-Sanatan and anti-Devbhoomi mentality of the Opposition party.
BJP state spokesperson and former cabinet minister Khajan Das today claimed that the latest investigation report has confirmed success of efforts to clean the rivers. He claimed that Congress members are unable to accept the fact that the efforts of the government have resulted in rapid improvement in quality of Ganga water and that their propaganda is politically motivated.
Responding to media questions, Das claimed that Congress is spreading lies and rumours about the purity and cleanliness of Ganga water. He cited a recent report from Jal Sansthan and other technical agencies, which has confirmed that Ganga water in Gangotri meets all cleanliness standards. Das said that under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi, significant work has been done to clean the rivers through the Namami Gange Yojana. The state government, along with the Centre, has installed 53 sewage treatment plants from Gangotri to Haridwar, with more progress currently underway. He claimed that these efforts have successfully prevented polluted water from thousands of drains from entering the rivers. Das also criticised Congress for misrepresenting other reports, which tarnish the image of Uttarakhand and create a false impression about the purity of the Ganga.
He urged Congress to refrain from political manipulation regarding the water of Mother Ganga. Bhatt alleged that, during their 60 years of rule, Congress never undertook concrete work for the betterment of Ganga and other rivers. He pointed out that the Ganga Action Plan, initiated during Rajiv Gandhi’s government, saw the loot of government funds from 1985 to 2014. Today, through the Namami Gange Yojana, conditions have been created for drinking water in Gangotri, Haridwar, and for bathing and cruising in Varanasi. Das claimed that work is being done on a war footing to make the water of Mother Ganga pure and clean under PM Modi’s leadership, and the day is not far when its water will be purest right till Gangasagar.
He asserted that Congress is upset due to the rapidly purifying Ganga water.
