Dehradun, 3 Sep: State BJP Mahila Morcha President and Kedarnath MLA Asha Nautiyal today alleged that the Congress party’s protest march towards the BJP state office on the issue of women’s safety was driven by political dominance rather than any genuine concern for women.
In a statement issued today, Nautiyal claimed that the Congress party workers appear to be competing amongst themselves, resulting in protests being organised in different groups. She pointed out that the chairperson of the National Commission for Women has already issued a clarification regarding the private company’s survey, which formed the basis of the Congress party workers’ protest, and the police administration has also released a statement on the matter.
Nautiyal emphasised that the government is continuously working on maintaining law & order and remains committed to ensuring women’s safety. She sought to remind that several significant measures have been implemented for women’s safety under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, including the establishment of a one-stop centre for working single women and the launch of the Gaurav Shakti mobile application. To date, more than 1.25 lakh working women across the state have downloaded this application, demonstrating its widespread adoption.
Nautiyal further reminded that monitoring for women’s safety is being effectively conducted through the Cheetah Police force, while in the capital city of Dehradun, surveillance is maintained through a network of more than 14,000 CCTV cameras. She added that cases involving women are being heard on a priority basis, and the police force is working with top priority in the state to ensure women’s safety. The state government has successfully worked to imprison even the most notorious criminals. She alleged that the Congress party appears to be merely attempting to gain political mileage. However, the people of the state are well aware of which party can implement more effective measures for women’s safety.
The BJP MLA stressed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, strict and robust steps are being consistently taken for the safety of women in the state. Nautiyal urged the Congress party to reflect upon its own past record, as it is widely known how safe women remained during Congress rule. She reiterated that the party primarily organises protests merely to remain in the headlines.
