Dehradun, 3 Oct: BJP has accused Congress of spreading confusion about Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) calling it better. State BJP President Mahendra Bhatt today claimed that Congress is not able to digest the smile on the faces of employees in the wake of announcement of UPS by the Modi Government. Bhatt claimed Congress came to power in many states by creating needless confusion over the UPS and cashing in on this issue but even it could not bring back the old pension scheme in those states.
Bhatt urged all the affected parties including the opposition to consider the issue of government employees with an open mind in national interest. There is a need to accept the scheme on the basis of its merits and demerits, without any political prejudices. Bhatt asserted that it is regrettable that Congress, which is talking about the old pension scheme for political gains, does not even know much about the Unified Pension Scheme.
The BJP leader reminded that many employees had objections to the new pension scheme implemented by the government for employees joining the government service from 2004 onwards. However, the Modi government was seriously considering for long time to review and it is in this sequence that a Unified Pension Scheme has been approved by the NDA Government, keeping in mind the concerns of the employees and the challenges of the country’s economy. Bhatt claimed that the UPS scheme, which will be implemented from April 1, 2025, will directly benefit 23 lakh central employees and a total of 90 lakh employees as the state government employees are included.
The BJP leader who is also a Rajya Sabha MP asserted that no one is going to fall into the lies of the opposition. Because now the government will contribute 18.5 percent of the basic salary of the employee under UPS while there will be no change in the employee’s 10 percent contribution.
Bhatt said that the NDA government has taken this historic step by showing sensitivity towards the long-standing demands of a section of employees. He appealed to all sections of the society, especially the political parties, to accept this scheme with an open mind in the national interest.
