CS asks officers to speed up implementation of welfare schemes

Dehradun, 6 Jul: Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, a 1988 batch Uttarakhand cadre IAS officer, today assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand. He is the 17th Chief Secretary of the state. He took charge from outgoing Chief Secretary Om Prakash, who is one year his senior being a 1987 batch officer. Om Prakash has been appointed as Chairman of the Revenue Board and Chief Resident Commissioner of Uttarakhand in New Delhi.

After assuming charge, Chief Secretary Sandhu held a meeting with the of senior officers including Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries and Additional Secretaries. At the meeting, he said that the government would have to make efforts so that the welfare schemes could be taken to the ground and to ensure that maximum people are able to take advantage of those schemes. He said that every scheme was launched with a very good objective, but often the outcome after its completion was not taken into account. Special attention had to be paid to every scheme to find out whether the desired objectives of that plan were achieved or not.

The Chief Secretary said that the file system would be shortened and speeded up so that the benefits of the schemes could reach the general public on time. He said that efforts would be made to ensure that the files reached the least possible number of levels in order to cut short the time for their disposal.

He claimed that the state had intelligent, hardworking and intelligent people at all levels and they needed to be trusted. The subordinates needed to be given responsibility for disposal of files at their levels so that it could be done expeditiously. Regular meetings had to be held at the level of the Section Officers so that the benefits of the schemes reached maximum number of people.

The Chief Secretary said that employment had been affected the most due to Covid. Efforts would be made by the state government to generate maximum employment. The situation had improved now on the Corona front but there was a need to maintain caution and vigil by all to keep it under control. .

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretaries Radha Raturi, Anand Vardhan and Manisha Panwar, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu along with all the officers of Secretary and Additional Secretary level were present.
