Delegation of electronic media persons calls on CM

Dehradun, 31 Aug: A delegation of electronic media persons called on Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at a helipad here today and urged the CM to ensure that journalists should not be harassed or issued notices over media coverage or for asking questions. They also thanked the CM for taking due cognisance of the issues faced by the scribes and taking prompt action in case of the journalists from Nainital district.
Speaking to Garhwal Post, the scribes who met the CM today reminded that the way notices were issued to the journalists by SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena of Nainital district for reporting the court hearing in the Banbhupura violence case amounted to their harassment. The SSP had claimed that media persons were wrongly claiming that the accused in the case managed to get bail because of failure on part of the Police to file chargesheet against them. He had claimed that the lower court had granted the Police additional time to file chargesheet and that the Police had managed to file chargesheet within the stipulated time frame. Many scribes from district Nainital were issued notices by Nainital Police on the issue. It was in this regard, that a delegation of various news channels met the CM today and also to thank him for issuing appropriate instruction in the said case.
Chief Minister Dhami has taken action and given appropriate instructions to the officials concerned in the said case. Following his instructions, the notices issued to the scribes have been withdrawn. In this regard, Dhami today interacted with journalists from various news channels. During this interaction, the CM emphasised that media is the fourth strong pillar of democracy. Through the media, the voice of the common man also reaches the government. He also shared that senior officers from the state have been instructed to communicate regularly with the media. Problems arise only when the communication breaks down. Therefore, it is important that all the officers keep regular communication with the media.
The Chief Minister has said that if journalists are asking something today, it does not mean that they wish to spoil the image of anyone. The dialogue should continue. Dhami assured all the journalists that such actions will not be repeated by the officials anywhere in the state. During the interaction, Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari was also present.
