Directions issued to complete preparations for Haridwar Kanwar Mela by 15 July

Haridwar, 14 Jul: The Haridwar District Administration has issued orders to all the departments concerned to complete the preparations for the Haridwar Kanwar Mela by 25 July. District Magistrate (DM) Mayur Dixit and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navneet Singh Bhullar inspected the mela area along with teams of officials here today. The inspection covered Hill Bypass, Saptrishi area, Rodi Belwala ground and the Najibabad Highway, where officials were directed to finish all works within the stipulated time frame.

The SSP reviewed the crowd control and also traffic management arrangements along the Kanwar Mela route. Departments were instructed to complete all the essential works including highways, sewer lines and bridges by 25 July to ensure that pilgrims face no inconvenience during the mela. During the inspection, the DM and the SSP also examined the parking facilities, traffic management, barricading, road repairs, lighting, drinking water, sanitation and the security arrangements. The officials present on site were directed to complete all necessary tasks within deadlines while maintaining quality standards.

According to the administration, the Kanwar Mela is set to begin officially on 30 July and continue till 11 August. During the Kanwar Mela, more than four crore pilgrims are expected to arrive in Haridwar. Arrangements are being scaled up to match the anticipated crowd. The DM said that the convenience of devotees is the administration’s top priority and that all the departments concerned have been clearly instructed to complete necessary arrangements by 25 July. He assured that parking, drinking water, sanitation, roads, lighting and other facilities will be fully in place before time. He added that preparations for the Kanwar Mela are being coordinated with those of the Kumbh Mela to ensure smooth conduct.

The SSP stated that in view of the large influx of devotees, a comprehensive plan for security and traffic has been prepared. Adequate police force will be deployed at Kanwar tracks, highways, parking sites and major intersections. Modern surveillance systems are being put in place to ensure smooth traffic operations and safe travel for pilgrims. He directed that all works on highways, Kanwar tracks and internal roads be completed by 20 July, after which no construction activity will be allowed on the roads.
