Dehradun, 14 Jul: The Dehradun district administration has approved a district action plan worth Rs 124.94 lakhs under the Prime Minister Scheduled Caste Abhyuday Yojana (PMAJAY) for the financial year 2026‑27. This move is a major initiative to accelerate the economic and social empowerment of the Scheduled Caste community according to the district administration officials. The plan has been approved by District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan and has now been sent to the Government of India for final approval. Once sanctioned, it will directly benefit 465 Scheduled Caste youth by providing opportunities for self‑employment and skill enhancement.

The action plan, prepared under the grant‑in‑aid component of the scheme, focuses on unemployed youth of the district. A subsidy of Rs 87.55 lakhs will be extended to 175 unemployed Scheduled Caste men and women to start their own businesses or self‑employment ventures, with the aim of making them self‑reliant and strengthening the economic condition of their families. Alongside, 290 educated unemployed youth will be provided employment‑oriented and skill development training aligned with current market demands. The training will be imparted through reputed and authorised voluntary organisations to ensure that the beneficiaries can secure jobs with ease.

Commenting on the development, DM Chauhan shared that the primary objective of the scheme is to economically empower Scheduled Caste youth and lead them towards self‑reliance. He directed that once the government’s approval is received, the selection of beneficiaries must be carried out with complete transparency and strictly as per prescribed norms so that the benefits reach the needy on time. District Social Welfare Officer Dipankar Ghildiyal stated that the department is expediting the process of sending the action plan for final clearance to the state and central governments. He assured that once approval is granted, the selection of eligible youth, their training and distribution of subsidies for self‑employment would begin immediately. He added that the department is committed to linking as many youth as possible with dignified livelihoods.
