Haridwar, 22 Jul: Police in Haridwar district have arrested four accused involved in the deadly assault on an anti‑mining team in Laksar on 13 July. It may be recalled that the attackers had not only launched a murderous assault on the team but also vandalised their vehicle. Since the day of the attack, the accused had been absconding, constantly changing their hideouts to evade arrest. After persistent raids and precise inputs from informers, police succeeded in apprehending four of them, while the search for others continues.
According to the complaint lodged by Teja Sai Raju, field team in‑charge of KRBM LLP and resident of Nagarjun Nagar, Santempalli, district Palnadu in Andhra Pradesh, the anti-mining team was attacked openly on the road in village Mundakheda with the intent to kill. Taking the gravity of the matter into account, police registered a case immediately and began investigation. On the directions of the SSP Haridwar, a special team was formed under the supervision of the Laksar Circle Officer and leadership of the Laksar SHO. Despite repeated raids, the accused managed to remain on the run until last evenoing when four were finally arrested.
Those arrested have been identified as Deepak Kumar of Raisi, Sarun of KD Khurd, Ramu of Kankarkhata and Harvindra of Mundakheda Khurd. Police said the attack was carried out after the anti‑mining team seized tractor‑trolleys engaged in illegal mining, provoking the accused to retaliate violently.
Circle Officer (CO) Devendra Singh reminded that the assault on the mining team was a grave crime amounting to a challenge to law and order. He confirmed that the four arrested have been produced before the court, while multiple police teams are pressing raids to nab the remaining fugitives. He claimed that none of the accused will be spared and strict legal action will be taken against all those involved.
