Mussoorie, 4 Sep: Amidst political activity regarding the BJP ticket for the Mussoorie Assembly seat, senior BJP leader and former Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ has dropped a strong hint about his candidacy. Gama stated that he would continue to pursue his desire to contest the election from the Mussoorie constituency.
While the party leadership will make the final decision on the ticket, he remarked that hope for a ‘four’ or a ‘six’ remains until the very last ball of the match is bowled. Gama noted that he has been working for the organisation as a dedicated BJP soldier for nearly 40 years. In 2018, the party entrusted him with the ticket for the Dehradun Municipal Corporation mayoral election, and he lived up to that trust by winning the poll.
According to records, Gama began his political journey in 1989 as a ward president and subsequently held various responsibilities within the organisation, including roles in the BJP Yuva Morcha. He recalled that, when the party gave the ticket to Saurabh Thapliyal in 2025, he prioritised the party’s interests over his personal ambitions and worked with full vigour for the candidate, following the organisation’s directives.
Gama emphasised that, within the BJP, the organisation—not the individual—is paramount.
Gama clarified that he would stand firmly behind whichever candidate the BJP leadership selects for Mussoorie. He stated that all party workers must unite to ensure the victory of the party’s candidate. “The ‘Lotus’ has bloomed in Mussoorie before, and it will bloom again,” he said, adding that the unity of party workers is the greatest strength in securing a BJP victory. Gama expressed his desire to represent the Mussoorie Assembly constituency and affirmed that he would remain actively engaged with the public and party workers to achieve this goal. He stated that his long tenure with the party has fostered a strong bond between him and the organisation as well as the party workers, and he intends to pursue this aspiration right up to the final moment.
Amidst the rising activity of potential contenders within the BJP for the Mussoorie assembly seat, this statement by Gama could further heat up the party’s internal politics in the coming days. However, the final decision rests with the BJP leadership.
