DEHRADUN, 17 Sep: Governor Baby Rani Maurya took part in a programme organised on the occasion Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday at the Barighat area of Canal Road, here, on Tuesday. Governor Maurya presented school lunch boxes and umbrellas to a hundred underprivileged children on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Governor Maurya said, “We are celebrating the birthday of our Prime Minister who experienced poverty very closely in his early life. The Prime Minister has implemented many schemes for the welfare and economic empowerment of the weaker sections. He has worked a lot for the empowerment of women and girls, in particular. The Suknaya Scheme, Ujjwala Scheme and Beti Bachao, Beti Padao campaign are his initiatives for women empowerment.” The Governor added that the Uttarakhand Women and Child Development Department had started many central and state sponsored schemes for the empowerment of women in the state. She asked the people to be aware of the increasing drug addiction problem these days. She appealed to women to take care of their children so that they are not trapped in drug addiction. She also asked women and girls to be aware of security issues and complain to the police if they faced any kind of harassment and stalking. She assured them that, if their complaint was not taken up properly, they could approach her directly by post. She would surely help them.
