Nainital, 7 Jun: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) held a meeting with office-bearers of the Hotel Association, Nainital, at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Wednesday. The Governor discussed in detail the challenges related to facility and infrastructure development for tourists in Nainital and received their suggestions.
The Governor said that Nainital’s natural beauty and the lake attract tourists from the country and abroad. Collective efforts would have to be made to increase and improve facilities for tourists. Infrastructure facilities were needed and efforts are being made by the government in this direction. He advised modernisation and value addition in the tourism sector. Efforts are being made to provide tunnel parking, multi-story parking and ropeways, etc.
The office-bearers present apprised the Governor about the challenges being faced by the tourism business in Nainital. These included increasing the parking capacity, strengthening the traffic system, developing the land of Nainital Defence Estate as a parking lot, approving the reconstruction works at old hotels and operating special trains for Kumaon. They also sought construction of a helipad in Nainital and connecting with Heli-services.
Assuring appropriate action on all the problems, Governor Singh said that the departments, local administration, Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister would be apprised of the requirements. He said that the action on some suggestions is also in motion.
Hotel Association President Digvijay Singh Bisht and other office bearers were present at the meeting.
Earlier, the Governor held a meeting with the office-bearers of the Boat Association and discussed their problems.
He was told that operation of boats is a major source of employment. They wanted a boat stand built in Naini Lake so that tourists could take shelter from the rains. Monitoring the cleanliness of the lake was also needed, as was its beautification and the repair of the road.
