NAINITAL, 27 May: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) held separate meetings with senior administrative officials of Kumaon Division and Nainital district at the Raj Bhavan here on Monday and reviewed the administrative, developmental and tourism related situation in the region.
Lt Gen Singh first discussed the major issues related to the division with Kumaon Division Commissioner Deepak Rawat. He said that currently, due to the tourist season, Nainital is witnessing a lot of pressure of tourists, which affects the traffic system. He directed formation of a long-term plan to solve the permanent problem of traffic jams. Also, he said that the tourist pressure should be balanced by developing alternative tourist destinations in addition to Nainital, so that overall tourism development can be ensured.
The Governor received information about law and order and traffic management from IG, Kumaon Zone, Riddhim Agarwal. District Magistrate Vandana, and SSP PN Meena discussed the ongoing development works and security arrangements in the district.
The Governor directed the officials to implement all the schemes for the convenience of tourists, comfort of local citizens and regional development in a timely and effective manner.
