Gov urges Kumaon Varsity students to take India forward in ‘Amrit Kaal’

Dehradun, 19 Jan: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) addressed the students while virtually participating in the 18th Convocation of Kumaon University on Friday. He also congratulated the Kumaon University family on its Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Addressing the students, the Governor said, “It is your moral responsibility to contribute to the progress of the country and society. India aspires to reclaim its position as a world leader, and the role of youth as hard-working, thoughtful and strong citizens will be crucial in achieving this goal.”

The Governor added, “Learn from the past, live in the present, dream for the future and work like Karmayogis to fulfill your aspirations. The coming 25 years are also a period of duty for you. When you keep your duties paramount, society will progress and the country will also progress.” He expressed confidence that they would all fulfill every responsibility with devotion and ability.

The Governor reminded that, today, India has become the world’s fifth largest economy, and part of the world’s top three startup ecosystem. India is making innovations and filing record number of patents. It is becoming the biggest manufacturing hub of the world, and the power of the youth of India is behind this. He asked the youth work in manner that, in the next century, the generation of that time will remember them and their enterprise. He expressed confidence that the strength and spirit of service of the youth will take the country and society to new heights and their efforts and hard work will make India the best nation.

The Governor congratulated the university family on completion of 50 years of academic excellence and service. He praised those who were part of this remarkable journey and contributed to its legacy. Contemporary professional courses in various fields have recently been added by the university. He said that this is a commendable step towards providing high quality vocational education along with traditional academic subjects.

The Governor praised the alumnus of the university and the former Secretary, Tourism, Bhaskar Khulbe, and Padma Shri awardee Dr Govardhan Mehta, who were honoured with honorary degrees by the university.
