Dehradun, 17 Jun: A high-level review meeting on the effective and smooth implementation of the new criminal laws in the state was held on Wednesday at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli. Senior officials from the Police, Prisons, Judiciary, Prosecution, and Forensic Departments attended the meeting.
During the review, the Home Secretary directed all departments concerned to ensure 100 percent compliance with the new criminal laws across the state by the end of August 2026. He conducted a detailed assessment of the implementation mechanism and instructed authorities to undertake corrective and targeted measures to strengthen police functioning at the police station level.
He also directed district-level officials to promote citizen-centric policing and encourage the use of e-FIR services, while improving the investigation and disposal of FIRs within the prescribed timelines of 60 and 90 days.
In addition, the Home Secretary emphasised the integration of all online systems under the principle of “One Data, One Entry” to eliminate duplication and improve efficiency. He further directed the Jail and Prison Departments to ensure that 100 percent of court appearances by inmates are conducted through video conferencing facilities.
The Home Secretary instructed all departments concerned to ensure the timely and strict implementation of these directions and to closely monitor progress to achieve the desired objectives.
