Dehradun, 20 Feb: After continuous efforts by the state government, 29 officers selected by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, Haridwar, have been appointed in the Horticulture and Food Processing Department. To provide them with a better understanding of departmental functions, they underwent basic training at the Uttarakhand Institute of Rural Development, Rudrapur, from 18 November 2024 to 8 February 2025. Following this, they received practical exposure through visits and training at various horticulture and food processing centres, mushroom and beekeeping centres, and other external institutions. After approval from the Horticulture Minister, the government issued deployment orders for these trainee officers on 19 February 2025. The primary goal of the government is to strengthen state horticulture centres, nurseries, food processing units, and related institutions.
Horticulture Minister Ganesh Joshi stated that the government’s main objective is to provide more opportunities to farmers and people associated with horticulture. He emphasised that special attention has been given to ensuring that these officers effectively implement schemes for the benefit of farmers and contribute to the development of state horticulture centres, nurseries, food processing units, mushroom, and beekeeping centres. The government aims to strengthen the Horticulture and Food Processing Department and accelerate horticultural development in the state. Expressing confidence in the newly appointed officers, the minister said they would implement agricultural and horticultural schemes effectively. He also mentioned that, during his tenure, recruitment for 30 Grade-2 officers, 37 Grade-2 officials, 227 Grade-3 officers, 28 assistant accountants, and 8 drivers has been completed, and a total of 330 personnel are currently serving in the Horticulture Department.
