Dehradun, 11 Aug: Uttarakhand Sub Area & 127 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological – Garhwal Rifles, in collaboration with Red FM, conducted a Special Plantation Drive under the national campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” in the vicinity of Bindal Bridge, Chakrata Road, today.

Major General MPS Gill, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Uttarakhand Sub Area, participated in the campaign by planting a sapling. Station Commander Brigadier Ram Singh Thapa, Colonel Pratul Thapliyal of the 127 TA Ecological Battalion (Garhwal Rifles), and other officers also took part in the drive.

On this occasion, he spoke to the students and members of the Red FM team about the importance of tree plantation and environmental conservation. He urged everyone to actively participate in the campaign and contribute towards creating a green and sustainable environment. He emphasised that environmental conservation is not merely a task, but a collective responsibility towards future generations.

The plantation drive was undertaken as part of the Unit’s flagship campaign “Bhagidari aur Zimmedari”, with the aim of developing a multi-layer forest on an identified degraded tract. Indigenous tree, shrub and ground-cover species were planted in a systematic manner to create a sustainable and biodiverse green ecosystem.

The initiative seeks to contribute towards restoration of degraded land, enhancement of biodiversity, soil conservation and strengthening of ecological resilience in the region. The multi-layer approach, incorporating trees, shrubs and ground-cover vegetation, is intended to progressively develop a self-sustaining forest ecosystem.
