Dehradun, 27 Apr: Dr Raghvendra Pratap Singh, Director, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), called on Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), here, today.
During the meeting, Dr Singh briefed the Governor about the activities, research initiatives, and recent advancements made by the institute in the fields of remote sensing and geospatial technology. He also stated that the institute has been actively working in Champawat district, utilising remote sensing and GIS technologies for natural resource management, environmental monitoring, disaster management, and capacity building initiatives.
The Governor, while learning about the various scientific and technological efforts of the institute, emphasised that the use of remote sensing technologies can greatly benefit the state in areas such as development planning, disaster management, environmental conservation, and agriculture.
He also stressed on the integration of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Metaverse, and Quantum Computing into research activities, highlighting that their adoption would make research efforts more effective and accessible.
