Haridwar, 19 Oct: Haridwar District Administration today took a major action against encroachment in Mirpur village of the district. The district administration today demolished an illegally built mazar-like religious structure in Mirpur village. This construction had been done by encroaching upon the land of Tehri Dam Project Rehabilation Project of Rishikesh Irrigation Department.

It may be recalled that based on the strict direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for a very strict action against encroachments on government properties in the state, this demolition was carried out today.

On the instructions of Haridwar District Magistrate Karmendra Singh, the encroachment was demolished by the administration under the leadership of SDM Ajayveer Singh. Heavy police force was also present during the demolition exercise. According to information made available by the Haridwar District Administration, this alleged religious construction in shape of a Mazar had been undertaken by illegally encroaching about two bighas of land belonging to the Tehri Dam Project Punarnivas Mandal Rishikesh Irrigation Department in the Ranipur Kotwali area. The encroachment has been removed.

Providing further information, District Magistrate Haridwar, Karmendra Singh claimed that the district administration is seriously running the anti-encroachment campaign in compliance with the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He shared that there is about 97 hectares of land in Mirpur village of the district, of which two bighas belonged to UP Irrigation. The department had given that land on a temporary agricultural lease, which expired some time ago. Meanwhile, some people built some religious structures there which appear to be Mazar like. The encroached land belonged to the Rehabilitation Department.

Karmendra Singh said that a request had come from the Rehabilitation Director to get the land vacated from encroachment. In response, notice was given to the encroachers. After receiving the notice, the encroachers promised to remove the illegal construction on time, but it had not been removed yet. Consequently, the administration took action and demolished the illegal construction on government land.
