Dehradun, 6 May: Under the directions of the Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority, Nainital, and the District Judge/Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, Prem Singh Khimal, a joint inspection was carried out today, as part of the “Safe Drugs: Safe Life” campaign.

The inspection was led by Seema Dungarakoti, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, accompanied by Manendra Singh Rana, Drug Inspector, and Constables Vinod Jagudi and Nidhi Ratudi.

The team conducted inspections at various locations along the Shimla Bypass Road in Dehradun, focusing on key aspects including the medical stores’ licences, pharmacist records, cold storage facilities, expired medicines and their disposal methods, and information related to narcotic drugs.

At Chauhan Clinic, Mehuwala, neither the pharmacist nor the owner (Ratan Singh) was present. An untrained individual was found at the store. The fridge was found turned off, containing several medicines. Numerous expired medicines were discovered along with unhygienic conditions. The expired medicines were seized, and a ban was imposed on sale/purchase. The process of licence cancellation was initiated, and the store was ordered shut immediately. At Sai Medical Store, Arcadia Grant, the pharmacist, Mohsin Ahmad, was present. The refrigerator lacked a temperature display, for which immediate action was directed. The pharmacist lacked proper knowledge of medicine storage and disposal of expired drugs. Due to various irregularities, the store was shut down on the spot and asked to submit a clarification.

At Durga Shakti Medical Store, Arcadia Grant,
pharmacist Yamini Bhatt was present. No expired medicines were found. Instructions were given to keep the store clean and to segregate expired medicines. The pharmacist stated that no narcotic drugs were sold at the store. She was advised to work responsibly. At MD Medicos, Shimla Bypass Road, neither the owner nor the pharmacist, Bhopal Bhola, was present. His wife informed the team that he was out. The fridge had a working temperature display, and only one CCTV camera was found. Instructions were given not to dispense medicines in the pharmacist’s absence and to maintain cleanliness and avoid selling expired drugs. At Dimri Medical Store, Shimla Bypass Road, Pharmacist Santosh Dimri was present. The fridge was in very poor condition, with a broken door and no temperature display, yet contained essential medicines like anti-rabies vaccines. Expired medicines were seized and directions were given to procure a new refrigerator immediately. Due to irregularities, the store was shut down on the spot.
