Dehradun, 30 May: On the occasion of Hindi Journalism Day, today, a solemn and dignified ceremony was organised at the Uttaranchal Press Club, here, at which several senior and active journalists from across the state were honoured for their work. The highlight of the event was the release of the souvenir, ‘Guldasta‘, jointly unveiled by Director General, Information and Public Relations, Banshidhar Tiwari, Special Guest Dr Devendra Bhasin, speakers Girish Chandra Gururani, Nishith Joshi, Ramesh Bhatt, Jyotsna, and Press Club officials including President Bhupendra Singh Kandari, General Secretary Surendra Dasila, Treasurer Anil Chandola, and editor of the souvenir, Shoorveer Bhandari.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Banshidhar Tiwari extended his greetings to all journalists on Hindi Journalism Day and emphasised the vital role of journalism in India’s freedom movement, noting how journalists carried the voice of freedom to the masses.
He observed that the increasing use of English terms in Hindi journalism is a challenge, and preserving the language in its purest form is essential. He encouraged journalists to accept criticism constructively, as a form of information.

Tiwari announced that a meeting between insurance agencies and journalist associations will be held next week to discuss the extension of health insurance benefits for journalists, similar to the Journalist Welfare Scheme and Golden Card scheme. He also stated that the process of accrediting journalists at the district and tehsil level is underway, and quotas for accredited journalists in media organisations will be expanded. He reiterated that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami remains committed to addressing the concerns of journalists.


Tiwari further stated that the proposal to convert the nazul land of the Press Club to freehold has been sent to the government and will soon be presented in the cabinet. Upon approval, construction of a new building for the Press Club will commence. He also shared that the draft of the Social Media Policy has been uploaded on the Information Department’s website and appealed to journalists to submit their suggestions promptly so the policy can be finalised.

He emphasised the importance of presenting the truth fearlessly and impartially, calling it the essence of true journalism. He expressed pride in Hindi journalism’s consistent role in amplifying the voice of society.
Speaker Girish Chandra Gururani said that Hindi journalism has remained relevant across eras—from the freedom struggle to the digital age. He reminded attendees that the core purpose of journalism is public service, not sensationalism.

Garhwal Post, Editor & Publisher, Satish Sharma said, “We must respect our seniors in the field of journalism and learn from their experiences.” He appealed to the young entrants in journalism to make it a point to publish achievements of journalists or related to their family members. Sharma also said journalists must use parliamentary language in their coverage on all mediums.
