Dehradun, 12 Aug: Ruskin Bond, much loved author, celebrated ‘World Elephant Day’ in his cottage while reading the book “Jumbos on the Edge: The Future of Elephant Conservation in India ” by Sanjeev Kumar Chadha, a forest officer from Odisha. The book has been published by Natraj Publishers, Dehradun.

Finding the book a highly informative read, he endorsed it, saying, ‘Our beautiful Jumbos need space and they are not getting enough of it. This useful book deals with the problems of these important citizens.” Jumbos, he added, have been here longer than the rest of us.

The book presents a road map for the future of elephant conservation in India and suggests ways to deal with elephant-human conflicts which are on the increase in recent times owing to loss of habitat for the lord of the jungle. World Elephant Day is celebrated every year on 12 August to spread awareness on the risk of extinction faced by these much loved wild denizens.
